Toledo ranks 3rd in affordable housing markets

Posted: Updated:

After years of uncertainty, it seems like things are starting to puck up in the real estate world.  Realty Trac has ranked Toledo in the top five most affordable housing markets, with a median home price of $100,000.  Danberry realtor Debbie Katich says it's amazing news.

"The market right now is so good.  There is so much to choose from, the prices are reasonable," she said.  :The lowest they've been in 30 years."

Katich also says homes in Toledo are selling much faster than in recent years. "I'm so happy to be at this point," she said.

At an auction Monday night, auctioneer Jack Amlin had no problem selling a home on Elm street in north Toledo.

"I think the market is starting to creep up in Toledo.  I'm seeing positive things," Amlin said.

And so are the buyers.  Toledoan Casey Mulvaney is looking to buy a home here in the glass city.  She purchased her current house 10 years ago, and says the market is much different now.

"The fact that they houses have dropped, I"am probably looking at houses I never could have afforded," Mulvaney said.

But there is still al long way to go for Toledo.  But for some this is a first step.  Still, its not a completely positive picture especially for people selling homes.  Lower values mean lower home prices, making them more affordable.  But some economists think, 2012 could be a turnaround year with some Ohio metro areas experiencing a rise in home prices.
