The 13abc I-Team is looking into the case of the missing money. With so many people living paycheck to paycheck these days, Connell Whitehead is really no different except that it's a Social Security check.
One he was supposed to receive in October still is nowhere to be found.
After a work injury years ago, Whitehead says he's been receiving Social Security payments since the Carter Administration. He's never once had a problem. That is until last October, when he went to the bank and found nothing.
"Yeah, I was upset. I don't need to tell you how bad I was upset. It makes you real nervous I tell you that," said Whitehead.
Whitehead gets his money through direct deposit. Somehow the October payment, he says, ended up in Texas. Then he says he was told the money ended up in Utah.
"They told me I'll receive my check in two weeks, it never showed up yet," said Whitehead.
It even says that in a latter he received. Whitehead is told ‘You will receive 980 dollars for October 2011 around November 3, 2011.' It's now May 2012 and Whitehead is still on a quest for his money.
"It's really bad because you only get one payment a month and that's the only thing I have to live off."
There may be a happy ending to this story. As a result of 13abc's questions, a representative with the Social Security Administration says Whitehead will be reissued the payment and he should see it in the next few days.
That spokesperson isn't sure what happened to the original payment he says the office is still looking into it.
