Toledo man finally gets his money from Social Security

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

There is good news tonight for Toledo man who has been getting the runaround from the Social Security Administration for more than 6 months.

Connell Whitehead was running low on options, so he called the 13abc I-Team and now he has results.

Whitehead says he's been receiving Social Security benefits since the Carter administration and has never had a problem until October of 2011 when his $980 payment was not there.

So that's when he started asking questions.  He was told the money might be in Texas and might be in Utah.  Every month he would go to the Social Security office in West Toledo and look for the money.  Every month he was told they were working on it, but still no money.

When the 13abc I-Team started asking questions, things started happening.  In fact, just a few hours after 13abc inquired, we were told the money would be reissued.  Just this week, Whitehead finally got his money.

"You can't be half as happy and I am.  Makes some good happy days, good happy times,"  Whitehead told 13ABC's Shaun Hegarty. "Now I can go back and pay the people I'm supposed to."

Whitehead is most thankful that he can now pay back the people he borrowed money from in October when he did not get his check.

A Social Security representative said in an email to 13abc that he cannot discuss the details of what happened to Whitehead's benefits at this time.
