Michigan doctor charged in alleged sexual assault

Posted: Updated:

A Michigan doctor has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a patient.  Michigan State Police say they were called to Mercy Memorial Hospital on a report that a woman, 26, was sexually assaulted by her doctor in his office.  Dr. Abdullahi Mohamed, 58, was taken into custody after questioning.  He's now, being charged with criminal sexual conduct in the 3rd and 4th degree.

Troopers say Mohamed was a staff physician at Mercy Memorial Hospital.  He was also a psychiatrist, with two offices in the Southeast Michigan area.

Hospital administration say they're aware of the situation, and in a statement, writes "an immediate review of process occurred for the protection of all of our patients and staff.  Mercy Memorial Hospital System is fully cooperating with the law enforcement agency's efforts."

Still, the news is coming as a shock, especially for Mohamed's other patients.  Tiffany Bussell, 21, says she's been a patient for about a year.  She says she never felt uncomfortable or noticed anything out of the ordinary.

"Just makes you think," she says. "You're sitting there, you're talking to him, he's a psychiatrist, he is in your personal life, what is he actually thinking when you are sitting there opening up your life to him."

If he's convicted, Mohamed could face up to 17 years in prison.
