Americans living longer at the expense of their waistlines

Posted: Updated:

A new report shows Americans are living longer but it's at the expense of our waistlines. The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions says while people might be living longer, it's not quality, at least not when you look at the larger picture of American's health.

The Dayton Daily News reports that while some communities are making healthy changes, the number of people who are still overweight or have chronic health problems is too high.

So while medicines and surgeries are helping people, public health officers are finding it's not enough to change how Americans look at their health.

In Dayton, leaders are working with schools and suburbs to promote healthy living. That's similar to programs we've seen in the past in Lucas County.

In addition to making fruits and veggies affordable to low income families, the CDC says those with high education are less likely to have chronic health conditions.
