Former Sylvania mayor killed in boating accident

Posted: Updated:

Many are in shock after learning about the death of former Sylvania Mayor Jim Seney and another man who grew up in the Toledo area. They were on a fishing trip Saturday when they were killed in a boating accident in Ontario, Canada.

At this point, officials aren't releasing many details, but Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the accident in the Lake of the Woods area of northwestern Ontario, about 125 miles east of Winnipeg.

Reports indicate the boat may have malfunctioned.

Seney and a former classmate from Ottawa Hills, Rob Foster, were both killed.

Seney was mayor of Sylvania for 18 years from 1977 to 1995. He had a hand in a lot of projects that shaped the city.

His family says funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.

A third man was hurt in the accident, but there is no word on his identity or condition.

Ontario police are continuing their investigation.
