Council votes for domestic partner health benefits

TOLEDO, Ohio -
Toledo City Council voted 9 to 3 Tuesday to extend health benefits to Toledo city workers' domestic partners, but the board rejected a move to have the legislation apply only to same-sex couples.
The measure includes an amendment to reopen negotiations with Local 92 firefighters, because the union has its own health plan.
Because of that amendment, Mayor Mike Bell says he will veto the legislation.
