Feds, Ohio charge 86 in drug count indictments

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (AP) - Authorities in northern Ohio have charged 86 people on various drug counts involving the sale of cocaine coming in from Georgia and Kentucky.

Federal and local officials in Cleveland call it the largest federal indictment in the area for the number of defendants involved.

Officials announced Tuesday that 72 people were charged with cocaine trafficking, and another 14 people were indicted on state drug charges.

The 97-count federal indictment says the drug-trafficking conspiracy lasted from 2011 through last month.

Four suspects also are charged in a January shootout with police that followed the wounding of a man over a $30,000 drug deal.
