ODOT upgrades wrong way signs

Posted: Updated:

It's a new safety measure on Ohio's interstates, improving "Do Not Enter," "Wrong Way," and "One Way" signs. It's part of ODOT's systematic sign replacement.  The department replaces traffic control signs on a regular basis to make sure drivers can see them at night.  By the end of 2012, crews will also add additional signs and pavement markings.  There are even plans to lower all the wrong way signs.

"What you do when you adjust the height of the wrong way sign is to improve the visibility of sings especially at night," Theresa Pollick, spokesperson for ODOT said.

The upgrades come after recent close calls and one tragic wrong way crash on I-75.  Four women were killed when one got on the expressway going the wrong direction.

Pollick says, "we are looking at improving the safety of all crashes, not only wrong way.  If there is a chance to do that, a chance to upgrade, a chance to improve, we are going to do that."
