Operation Shield results

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

The chief of Toledo police says criminal activity has been low the past few days. The reason: officers have been conducting a massive pre-emptive sweep. The operation involved 16 different agencies; including Toledo police and the State Highway Patrol.

Operation Shield covered the Toledo metropolitan area, both Lucas and Wood counties over a two day period. It started with traffic stops. Officers would then try to gather intelligence from the stops, just by asking questions. Undercover detectives wearing plain clothes would then follow-up on tips. Those tips would often lead to search warrants at homes and dozens of arrests.

Among the highlights, Operation Shield led to the recovery of 4 stolen vehicles, 8 guns, and more than 12,000 grams of marijuana; that includes about $10,000 worth in the city of Toledo alone. Officers also arrested 8 people on charges of human trafficking, 49 on felony drug charges and 16 impaired drivers.
