Roosevelt Pool reopens after 2-year closure

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Kids will tell you summer doesn't start until school ends and the pools open. There was plenty of splishing and splashing at Roosevelt Pool Saturday. Hundreds of kids came out for the opening.

After a two year absence, many area residents welcomed the relief on what was a scorcher of a day.

City officials gathered to celebrate the grand reopening of Roosevelt Pool on Dorr Street near Smith Park, and the kids couldn't wait to take a dip.

Roosevelt Pool has been closed for the past two years.

"It's been a long time coming," says Toledo City Councilman Tyrone Riley. "This is another piece in the revitalization of the neighborhood."

The pool was reopened thanks to a $280,000 improvement project.

"The critical reason for getting these pools open is we want positive activities for our kids this summer," says Mayor Mike Bell. "Swimming is a very positive activity."

Roosevelt is the first of six public pools that will open this summer. The five others open on Tuesday. Daily pool hours will be from noon to 6 p.m.
