Major Toledo intersection closed, hurting business

Posted: Updated:

Construction on one of Toledo's busiest intersections will make it a slow-go for a while. The city started work on west Sylvania Avenue today, closing the intersection of Sylvania, Tremainsville and Jackman for the next few weeks.

The news isn't sitting well with business owners. Crews shutdown the intersection at 5:00 this morning, and for the next few weeks, residents can expect heavy machinery and lots of side street traffic. The area is the heart of the five point neighborhood and, without the main vein, residents will have to detour around.

Today we found lots of people pulling U-turns. Some business owners who have shops on Sylvania are worried with the road closures they'll lose customers.

Americana Jewelers and Cash owner Tom Tadsan says, "I don't know what the solution is but we average $1,000 a day in business, but we're not getting rich, just trying to survive."

The project is expected to wrap up July 9th. Until then, business owners like Tadsan are hoping customers keep coming despite the orange barrels.
