EVENING NEWS HEADLINES - JUNE 19, 2012

NEW LOCAL NEWS

1. OREGON TODDLER DEATH

An Oregon 2-year-old was found dead in a backyard pool, some 40 minutes after he was reported missing by his grandfather. Police say the man was watching the child and left him alone for only a minute and the toddler was gone. Crews searched the neighborhood but after 45 minutes, they found him in the pool of a neighbor's house. Police say he was trapped underneath the solar cover. Emergency crews began CPR immediately, but 2-year-old Frasier Burt was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities say there's nothing to indicate this was anything other than an accident.

2. LOURDES EXPANSION

Sylvania city council vote 5-0 nothing tonight to approve the expansion of Lourdes University. Lourdes will build an athletic facility, an academic building and a campus ministry complex connecting the Lourdes Apartment Complex with the campus. Neighbors were worried about privacy and noise that they believe the expansion would create.

3. RED CROSS WORKERS

(AP) - Red Cross workers in the Cleveland area should be back on the job within days after ratifying a four-year contract to end a strike that began in February. The Plain Dealer reports the pact includes pay hikes and some guarantees to protection against rising health care costs.

4. PROFESSOR STABBED

(AP) - A part-time professor at Columbus State Community College is recovering after he was stabbed in the stomach this morning on campus. Police are searching for a person of interest, saying he wasn't a student and apparently knew the victim.

5. CLEMENS ACQUITTED

(AP) - Former pitching great Roger Clemens has been acquitted on all charges that he obstructed and lied to Congress in denying he used performance-enhancing drugs to extend his long career. After the verdict was announced today, Clemens said "I'm very thankful," choking up as he spoke. He added "It's been a hard five years."

6. ROMNEY - MICHIGAN

(AP) - Mitt Romney says he thinks he can win Michigan - and that if he does, he'll win the presidency. The Republican hopeful is heading to Michigan for a day of campaigning. He was in Iowa today. Romney is expected to complete a five-day, six-state bus tour tomorrow.

    Toledo Police have shut down southbound I-75 between Anthony Wayne Trail and South due to a serious accident. We're told it is a rollover crash. At least one man was seriously injured when he was ejected
