Bomb plot suspect seeks own trial outside NE Ohio

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (AP) - 1 of 5 men charged with plotting to bomb a highway bridge wants to be tried separately and have the trial outside northeast Ohio.

The requests were filed Monday by an attorney for 26-year-old Douglas Wright, of Indianapolis.

His attorney says Wright should be tried separately because the other defendants have pointed to him as an instigator. All five have pleaded not guilty.

Wright's attorney says the trial should be moved to Toledo, away from northeast Ohio targets that allegedly were considered.

Authorities have called the men anarchists. Investigators say the men tried to detonate what turned out to be a dud bomb provided by an FBI undercover informant. They could face life in prison if convicted of trying to bomb the bridge south of Cleveland.
