Scott Jess Named Winner Of The Tony Anderson Award

Posted: Updated:

Bowling Green State University equipment manager Scott "Scooter" Jess has been presented with the Tony Anderson Award, given annually to the outstanding District V member of the Athletic Equipment Managers' Association (AEMA). Jess works primarily with the hockey and baseball teams at BGSU.

"Scooter's love and dedication for BGSU Athletics is in the forefront of all he does," Head Equipment Manager Brian Daniels said. "He has worked tirelessly for many years to insure that his student-athletes are properly equipped to represent BGSU in their respected sports."

The winner of the Tony Anderson Award must be nominated and is voted on by peers. Jess was presented with the award on June 5. Jess will now be nominated for the Glenn Sharp Award, given annually to the national Equipment Manager of the Year. Sharp is a member of the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame, having served as the equipment manager at Bowling Green for 24 years before retiring in 1981. He was one of the founders of the AEMA and was named Equipment Manager of the Year in 1978.

"Scott is deserving of this award for all he does for District V of the AEMA, an association started in great part by the efforts of Glenn Sharp and family," Daniels said. "I thank Scott for his hard work and dedication to make the AEMA a strong and nationally-recognized certifier of athletic equipment managers."

Jess has completed 16 years at BGSU after serving six seasons as head equipment manager/trainer in the East Coast Hockey League. He received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in 1989.
