EVENING NEWS HEADLINES - JUNE 19, 2012

NEW LOCAL NEWS

1. SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP AND TARTA

Sylvania Township trustees voted to put a new "opt out of Tarta" measure on the November ballot. Last year, trustees voted unanimously to put the same measure on the March ballot but pulled it back. The difference between now and then is there are no plans to have an alternative to Tarta in place if voters opt out.

2. KIKI LORANN

A Perrysburg woman accused of stealing nearly $100,000 from school and community groups, including organizations for which she served as treasurer, faced a judge today. Kiki Lorann was arraigned on three felony theft charges. she's been ordered to stay away from the groups and to stay off school property. Lorann is due back in court July 31st.

3. CAUSE OF DEATH

The Lucas County coroner ruled that the baby found in a freezer had been strangled and put under water. A landlord found the infant's body in the apartment in April. The coroner confirms that the infant was the child of the two people charged with the murder. The mother faces trial for the death in August.

NEW STATE NEWS

3. OSU - OPEN RECORDS

(AP) - The state Supreme Court has largely sided with Ohio State in an open records lawsuit filed by ESPN over documents from last year's football scandal. The court did order the school to remove names from some documents and then provide them to the network.

4. UNION - POLITICS

(AP) - One of the nation's most politically active labor unions plans to focus its resources on fewer states this year in an effort to re-elect President Barack Obama. The Service Employees International Union says it will target its massive field campaign on turning out voters in just eight battleground states, including Ohio -- about half the number it focused on in 2008.

5. MUBARAK STROKE

Officials in Egypt say former president Hosni Mubarak is being kept alive by life support. Mubarak reportedly suffered a stroke in prison earlier today. The state news says the 84-year-old was "clinically dead" when he got to a military hospital from prison. But he was revived with a defibrillator. A senior military official called Mubarak's condition "very critical."

6. RODNEY KING 911 CALL

(AP) - In a frantic 911 call, Rodney King's fiancee says she heard something "fall like the table" and found King in the bottom of the swimming pool. Cynthia Kelley says she threw a shovel into the water, hoping to get a response. Police are investigating the death as an accidental drowning.
