Child, 2, hit by car; driver takes off

Posted: Updated:

A 2-year-old is in the hospital after police say he was hit by a car.  Now, his family is asking the public for help finding the driver, who took off.  It happened Tuesday evening, around 6:30 p.m., near the intersection of Boalt and Field.

Family members of Dominic, tell 13abc, the toddler was playing with his cousins in the yard when their ball rolled into the street. When they went to get it, the young boy was hit by a car, and the driver took off.

"The car had come down from way down the street, around the corner and out of nowhere," Kimberly Williams, the boys grandmother said.

Police say Dominic was hit near the curb, thrown about 25 feet before landing under a truck.  Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital.  Just down the street from the accident is Westfield Elementary, where several surveillance cameras are set up.  Williams hopes they captured something that will lead to an arrest.

Police are looking for a black Chrysler 300 with silver rims and possible damage to the front end.  If you have any information call Toledo Police.

As for Dominic, he is expected to be okay, but remains in the hospital as of Wednesday night.
