GRAND RAPIDS, Ohio -
It was a normal day at the Grand Rapids swimming pool Wednesday afternoon.
Kids were diving, doing flips, and cannon balls, until these lifeguards spotted trouble.
A baby boy was in this one-foot baby pool, when he was overtaken by water.Witnesses told police the baby was unconscious. Pool officials called 9-11.
Nineteen-year-old pool manager and lifeguard, Roy Grosswiler rushed to the rescue.
"I had him over my shoulder, I was patting the water out until we got a big chunk of water and mucous."
The baby began breathing again and was sent to the hospital. No word on his condition.
Roy says, "I probably have had 50 saves, I've never had a choking victim."
Roy has been a lifeguard for 4 years, he just got re-certified. All that training, has come in handy.
Tammie Downey says, "Thankfully they were all paying attention but I don't think that there's any substitute for adult supervision, So thankfully the mother was right there or it could have been worse."
Roy had a message for the baby's family.
"I want to send my best wishes out to the family, I hope he is doing well and I want him to be fine." Lifeguard Roy is now being called a hero.
