TOLEDO, Ohio -

Dozens of family and friends gathered to say goodbye to Alexander Michael Cervantes.  In April the baby boy's tiny lifeless body was found in a freezer where his parents used to live.

The child's mother, Kenisha Pruitt is accused of killing the baby.  His father, Antonio Cervantes also faces serious charges. The baby's paternal grandmother spoke for the first time.

"It meant my baby is finally being put to rest. He didn't deserve something so cruel. He didn't," said the paternal grandmother Mary Angel.

There were hugs, tears and words of encouragement.  Eloise Elliott sang at the funeral.

"This has been something that is so devastating I'm never seen anything like it in my entire life, but my prayers are we as a people begin to ban together," said Eloise Elliot.

Weeping close friends and family placed flowers on the little white casket.

"I didn't know what to feel I was scared I was sad I was hurt, " said Cervante's friend Kelsey Ricker

"Emotional I did cry. Its good now he's had a proper burial," said family friend Taylor Hammer.

The baby is buried in Ottawa Hills cemetery in a special place.

"I knew that we had a plot next to my father that was open. I knew there was a vault there and thought it would work out perfect," said Tom Griesinger.

Tom Griesinger took an interest in the case after he learned the tragic details of the child's murder. The coroner says the baby was alive when he was born. His grieving grandmother thanked the community for its support

"He's got his closure everybody's got their closure now as far as this part. But that's what we need we need him to be put to rest. Thank you thank everybody," said Mary Angel.

Pruitts trial is set for august 6th. Cervantes case has not yet been presented to the grand jury.
