TOLEDO, Ohio -
A caregiver finds an elderly woman dead inside her home after being robbed. Toledo police say a teenager stole a television while the woman was inside her home. The caregiver caught the robber in the act and tried to save the woman's life. It all happened Tuesday evening on the 300 block of Mettler Street.
Catherine Mitchell is the victim's caregiver.
Mitchell says, "She has no family here, I'm pretty much her only family. She has nobody here. I was coming to check on her. I usually come at 5:00 and I noticed a young guy standing on the side of the house. I asked him what are you doing, because he was carrying a flat screen T.V. He told me somebody gave it to his uncle and I found it very suspicious."
Mitchell says there is no reason for him to be near the 68 year old woman's home. Mitchell says the teen even asked her to help him carry the T.V.
Mitchell says, "I said no, I said I'm about to help you with 911."
Investigators say the teen took off with the T.V. while Mitchell checked on the woman inside.
Mitchell says, "I immediately started CPR, I immediately started chest compressions but by that time she was already gone."
Neighbors say in the last year, she's been robbed four times, and they've had enough.
Chris Satterth lives next door to the suspect.
Satterth says, "They believe they broke in and scared her. They believe these kids do need to be found. They do need to be arrested and convicted."
He says he will miss waving to his neighbor in the morning.
Satterth says, "It's going to be depressing, it's going to be hard. I'm going to be sad."
That's why people close to the victim are crying out for help.
Mitchell says, "Please call the police, this woman don't do nothing to nobody. She is a nice woman, she's an elderly woman, she was disabled and there's no reason why people should break into elderly houses to get what they want."
Police are searching for at least one suspect. He is described as a 15-year-old black male, with a thin build, wearing red shorts and a blue Cookie Monster T-shirt.
