Annual “Chicks Mix” Wednesday night at TBG

TOLEDO, Ohio -

Hundreds of local "chicks" are mixing it up for charity, and they'll raise tens of thousands of dollars in the process. The annual "Chicks Mix" is Wednesday night at the Toledo Botanical Garden.

It's a fundraiser for the group "Chicks for Charity." The group is made up of about 1,800 women who choose a charity every two years to raise money for. Right now, the chosen organization is the International Boxing Club.

"We use boxing as a hook to get kids off the streets. We have a learning center, a vocational center where we teach them things like carpentry and plumbing," says Harry Cummins with the charity. "Our main goal though is to teach kids how to be champions in life."

"It is a way to have fun and socialize with your friends, while raising money for a good cause," says chick Jackie Zureich. "It is a fun and easy way to feel good about giving back."

The event is Wednesday night from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 at the Toledo Botanical Garden. You can buy tickets at the door.

Since 2006, Chicks for Charity has raised more than $260,000 for several different local charities.
