Could cosmetics contribute to an increased risk of diabetes in women?

New research focusing on phthalates suggests it's possible.   Phthalates are chemicals often found in personal care items like nail polishes, soaps and perfumes. They're also in some electronics and toys.

Researchers found the diabetes risk was nearly doubled in women with the highest levels of certain phthalates compared with women with the lowest levels.

However, scientists caution the research does not prove a cause and effect.
