TOLEDO, Ohio -
It is one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, the Lagrange Street Polish Festival.
"It's really getting a name for itself now," said Terry Glazer, with United North. "Next year will be our 30th, which will be even bigger! Nothing lasts for 29 years unless there is a reason and our festival has been going strong."
As always one of the big draws is the food. Pierogi, kielbasa and many more authentic polish foods are on the menu.
"People can walk down the street with a Polish beer in one hand, a pirogue in the other and see their neighbors and it's just a great event," Glazer said.
But because thousands of people are expected over the weekend, Toledo Police are stepping it up. They want festival goers to come out and have a good time and also stay safe.
"Basically we have officers patrolling the street up and down, we have them stationed at the ticket booths and some of the beer tents," Toledo Police Sgt. Dave Wieczorek said.
15 to 20 officers are assigned to patrol the area, not including those already out in the neighborhood. Sgt. Wieczorek says thanks to festival organizers, officers have a little less to worry about.
"Lagrange has a very proactive development corporation. They have a very good idea about security for the neighborhood," Wieczorek said.
If you're looking for a way to get out of the house, head down to Lagrange Street for one of Toledo's best summer festivals.
