A home invasion has Monroe sheriff's deputies trying to track down the suspects. It happened in Erie Township Saturday night.
James Knerr tells us he moved to the quiet country neighborhood because he believed it was safe. Now he's having second thoughts after he became the victim of a home invasion.
For his own safety, Knerr did not wish to speak on camera and requested we don't show his house.
Deputies were called to the area near the 8000 block of Suder Avenue in Erie Township late Saturday. Knerr told authorities a man forced his way into his home, struck him in the face with a hammer and demanded money.
James also suffered injuries to his neck and ribs. He was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, with short brown hair and standing 6' 5". He fled the scene in Knerr's vehicle, which was recovered a short time later by sheriff's deputies.
It is believed the suspect was working with a black male accomplice who picked him up after abandoning the vehicle. That man is estimated to be about 30 years old with a slender build. He was seen operating an older blue Chevrolet truck with a silver stripe along the bottom. Lawnmowers were also seen in the bed of the truck.
