Tragedy strikes not once, but twice for a mother and daughter. A young girl is severely burned, and, while being treated at the hospital, her family's home is burglarized. It's been an extremely difficult week for both the mother and daughter, who continues to heal at Mercy St V's. Right now, their only concern is getting the young girl better and hoping everything else will fall into place.
Eleven-year-old Toralynn Carter and her mother, Anna Floyd, just moved into their home.
Carter says, "I was actually getting to like the house. I was going to get over the grease problem, but now I just feel unsafe."
Carter was home with her baby-sitter, when she slipped and fell while carrying hot grease. Her mother rushed home from work and has been by her side ever since.
Floyd says, "Her medical state is not that great right now. I can't stop what is going on. All I can do is be here for my daughter and I am not leaving the hospital. I'm going to do whatever I have to do. She comes first."
It gets even worse for this single parent, trying to juggle two jobs. A Toledo Police report shows Floyd's home was burglarized early Tuesday morning while at the hospital. The house alarm went off, but, by the time police got on scene, the suspects got away.
Floyd says, "I thought oh my god what do I do at this point? All my stuff is gone, she is here I have to come back to a hospital and tell my daughter all of her stuff has been stole. Why me? Why our family? Why our situation? Why our house?"
"Why would you take something you didn't pay for?" young Carter asks.
Floyd resigned from one job and cut back on hours at her other job to be by her daughter's side.
Floyd says, "We don't understand. This was an accident, a full blown accident it is not her fault. I just want people to know I feel it is wrong to break into our house when we are gone knowing where we are at."
Now the family is looking to move. Their number one concern is getting their brave girl back to good health. Carter is expected to be in the hospital for at least another month and then undergo a number of treatments. Floyd cooks for Red Wells in Maumee. The managers contacted 13abc to let us know throughout Saturday 20% of all proceeds of sales will go to this family.

If a tornado threatens, get into the basement. If you don't have a basement, a small, interior room in the lowest floor of your home is relatively safe. Avoid rooms with windows. Mobile homes are not safe in a tornado.
