TEMPERANCE, Mich. (AP) - Agents investigating a Michigan bank robbery scored a knockout: A bloody nose at a boxing match helped them link a boxer to the crime.
FBI agent Robert Schmitz says he attended a fight in April in Toledo, Ohio, and obtained a swab that was used to stop Martin Tucker's bloody nose. In a court document, he says DNA from the blood matched DNA from other evidence in the 2009 robbery in Temperance, near the Michigan-Ohio border.
A Detroit federal judge ordered that Tucker be held without bond Wednesday. Defense attorney Haytham Faraj (Fah-RAJ') declined to comment on the Toledo man's alleged role. He says the FBI didn't need the bloody swab because of other evidence, but he calls it an "interesting twist."
Another man has been charged in the case.
