Restaurant Report Card for July 19th

Posted: Updated:
LUDINGTON, Mich. -

From flies in the drain to dirty dishes, health inspectors noted every detail during their latest round of inspections. Those details barely added up. The number of violations at each restaurant this week is down.

Summertime is here, but inspectors with the Toledo Lucas County health department are not on vacation. The restaurants, however, might be making it easy on them.

None of the restaurants during this latest two-week period had violations in the double digits.

In fact, the top two most likely would not have made the Restaurant Report card any other time this year.

Take OB's Bar and Grill on Tremainsville  An inspector wrote it up for 9 violations, then crossed one off, making it 8.  Five of those were critical, including no sanitizer bucket, all the doors were open at the time of inspection and a sink was full of dirty dishes and stagnant water in the basement.

13abc contacted a manager and did get a message back, but we are still waiting for a response to the report itself.

Next, was Rave Motion Pictures Fallen Timbers.     It had 9 violations, none of them critical.       Inspectors noted the mop sink was plugged and full of dirty mop water, drain flies were around the three compartment sink and all coolers, freezers and cooking equipment are in need of a deep cleaning to remove all food and soil from the units.

13abc spoke with an employee at Rave Fallen Timbers and we're still waiting to hear back from a manager.

Finally, a place that's been in business 24 years, but it's only been on Monclova Road since last November, The Baker's Kitchen. It's violation free.

Owner Marcia Thrush says,  "We started the bakery a long time ago. We were young and foolish, and started selling little bit of cake supplies in the front of the bakery and it grew. We were in a little strip mall, kind of squished, and we wanted to be under one roof. So, we moved over here. It was our dream."

You might say staying violation free at the baker's kitchen is a piece of cake.

Three more restaurants that aced the restaurant report card:  Wendy's in Swanton, Papa John's on Key Street in Toledo and the Burger King on Laskey. All three had no violations.
