Kitten nearly crushed, saved by construction crew

Posted: Updated:

It was a normal day at the construction, clearing concrete blocks from the old Jeep plant.

"My buddy drives the loader, he was dumping rocks while I was crushing," Willie Harris, construction worker, said.

Harris keeps an eye on each load, and on Thursday afternoon, through all of the dust, something out of the ordinary caught his eye.

"At the last minute, I saw a little fur ball," he said.  "I thought it was an old glove or something that would be in the rocks."

But it wasn't, it was a 3-week old kitten.

"I ran down the steps, cut off the machine and jumped in," Harris said describing his reaction. "I thought I was dead, but then it scratched me.  I said, 'its alive!"

Harris and his co-workers wrapped the Kitten in a blanket and called 13abc.  Our crew took the kitten, appropriately name Lucky, to the Toledo Area Humane Society where staff members and a veterinarian looked him over.

"Just a couple of very minor injuries which is very surprising considering everything it seems he went through," Cindi Condit, Toledo Area Humane Society, told 13abc.

Somehow, the little guy survived being picked up by a front loader and dumped into a bin of concrete.  But thanks to Harris and the rest of the crew he did.  Now, with a little help from the Humane Society, little Lucky will likely live a long and happy life.

Lucky, is still a little to young to be up for adoption.  If all goes well he should be ready to go in about 4 to 5 weeks.  But keep in mind there are hundreds of kittens at the Humane Society up for adoption.  So many, in fact, that the organization is extending its $5 Fridays through this weekend.
