TOLEDO, Ohio -
A little girl's dream of Disney will now be a reality thanks to the compassion of people in our community.
Four-year-old Mckenna May's father refused to let her take the trip through Make-a-Wish because her leukemia is in remission. Now the family has raised more than enough money to go.
Mckenna was diagnosed with leukemia and Make-a-Wish wanted to make her dreams come true, but her dad refused to sign off on the trip because Mckenna is in remission.
Billy May says, "One reason if feel is make a wish donations they receive should be utilized toward terminally ill children, ones that don't live long enough to experience things like Disneyland."
It turns out Mckenna will still experience the magic of Disney. The family has received more than $11,000 in donations.
Mckenna's mother Whitney Hughes says, "I just want to thank everybody and it's greatly appreciated and that we now have enough to take her on her trip for longer than we originally anticipated everybody that wanted to go is able to go now."
Mckenna's mother says they don't need any additional money because they have what they need for the trip.
Their trip is being organized by another organization based out of Pennsylvania called Jamie's Dream Team.
Jamie Holmes, founder of the organization says, "We have done trips, meet and greets, princess parties, weddings. We've helped over 300 families over the last seven years."
Jamie's Dream Team is a non-profit organization that grants wishes of adults and children who are suffering with illness.
Holmes says, "Mckenna and every other child who goes to Disney world through an organization through give kids the world is treated like royalty there, with the perks of nurses and front row lines. "
Mckenna's mom wants the overflow of donated money to go to Jamie's Dream Team.
