From fresh fruits to hot-off-the-grill meats, shoppers at the Kroger in Waterville getting to explore products grown right in our own backyard.
The store hosted a "Discover Local" event Friday. People were able to sample products made by companies in and around the Toledo area. From Stanley's Market and Tony Packo's to the Oasis and Wonder Bread.
Managers say buying local is not just good for the economy, it gives people a sense of community pride.
Bart Nenadovich, co-manager of the store said, "It's important to support locals because they're the ones who help drive the community. Without the community here, no matter what we do, we don't have the people to come in and shop. A lot of people don't know that we carry so many products that are grown here locally, manufactured here locally. So to see the people here come out, really enjoy the products, it makes you feel good to be a Toledoan."
The first 50 customers at today's event received a reusable bag filled with locally grown produce.

Police say Kenneth Collins, 20, was found unconscious inside of a car on North Reynolds early Saturday morning.Investigators say a passerby flagged down a trooper who found Collins inside of the car. Collins later died at the hospital.
