    Severe weather is sweeping areas of the plains states. At least one person is dead and more storms are on the way today. ISOH/IMPACT is preparing to help those affected by the spring storms in Texas
    A large tornado roared through the southern part of Oklahoma City and Moore, Oklahoma Monday afternoon.  Damage is extensive.  Video showed blocks of flattened homes and vehicles tossed upside down.

    The warmer weather bring out all of the bugs. Today begins the Toledo Area Sanitary District's battle with mosquitos. Both rainfall and temperature play a role in how many mosquitos we'll have this
    The Toledo Area Sanitary District has started mosquito control. Monday evening marks the first day of light trapping. Biologists trap mosquitos and then study the numbers and types throughout the county. Free backyard sprays begin this week and neighborhood fogging starts in June. Log on to 13abc.com for details.

NEW LOCAL NEWS

1. DROUGHT FOOD PRICES

The Ohio Department of Agriculture says our part of the state is in a severe drought. The USDA forecast predicts nearly a 5 percent increase in prices on food like milk, eggs, beef, poultry and pork. Already the drought has had an effect on corn and bean prices. Even chickens are struggling in the heat. Farmers say hot chickens produce fewer eggs.

2. PAGE INJURED

The Denver Broncos cut former Toledo Rockets wide receiver Eric Page who tore his ACL in a workout last Friday. Page's agent tells 13abc they're still evaluating the extent of the knee injury and Page knew something was immediately wrong last week. Page skipped his senior year with the Rockets to enter the NFL draft. The Broncos signed page as an undrafted free agent.

3. TRAIN DERAILMENT

A train derailment and explosion in Central Ohio earlier this month caused more than one million dollars damage. Federal officials estimated the cost at $1.2 million. It's part of a brief preliminary report released today by the National Transportation Safety Board. Officials are still looking into what caused the train to jump the tracks north of downtown Columbus on July 11th.

4. CHILDREN AND POVERTY

A new national study finds the number of children living in poverty in Ohio increased by 4 percentage points during the recession, but more children have health insurance. The Annie E. Casey Foundation's annual Kids Count survey ranks Ohio 27th in the nation for child well-being.

5. SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE.

The University of Colorado confirms it got a suspicious package and some news outlets say it's from James Holmes. He's the former graduate student accused of the deadly Colorado movie theater shooting. The news reports also say Holmes sent a notebook to the university with scribblings of stick figures being shot. The university will only confirm it received a suspicious package and turned it over to authorities.

6. TAX CUTS

(AP) - Democrats have pushed a yearlong extension of tax cuts for all but the highest-earning Americans through the Senate. Senators approved the Democratic bill by a near party-line 51-48 vote today. It gives President Barack Obama and his party a significant political victory. But the measure is fated to go no further in Congress. It hasn't a chance in the GOP-led House.
