A local food pantry is operating at a dangerous level.
Saint Mary of the Assumption Outreach Center serves a thousand people a month, yet it only has a few weeks worth of food supply left. Today the Outreach center is asking for your help.
Ellen McComis is the Program Director at Saint Mary of the Assumption Outreach Center
She says their food pantry is down to a 3 week supply. The center is hoping the community will pitch in and help.
McComis tells 13 ABC, "Don't ever think your donation is too small because everything is used, from a jar of baby food to a pack of Jello it all gets used and people are desperate for food."
Ellen gave us a tour of the food pantry today.
"We serve a lot of seniors a lot of young women with big families and who are alone and don't know where to go and what to do, we have a lot of homeless people come in."
Joni Meyer-Crothers and her family heard about the need here and responded.
Crothers tells 13 ABC, "Of course if somebody is hungry we got to step it up a notch and with my couponing and with our stockpile, we need to make a difference we need to help people and I also want my kids to the importance of it, I want them to have a compassionate heart and for them not to say just because its not in my backyard and I don't see it, it does exist and I think its going to make them grow up and be more caring and giving people "
Right now the food pantry needs spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, tuna, noodles, and canned food.
The food pantry is open Monday through Friday from 9-2pm and is closed the second Wednesday of the month. If you would like to help monetary donations click below.
