Bridge bomb suspects released from isolation

Posted: Updated:
AKRON, Ohio -

(AP) - Two of the men charged with plotting to bomb an Ohio highway bridge have won a judge's permission to be released from prison isolation cells.

The attorney for 20-year-old Brandon Baxter of Lakewood says administrative segregation at a prison near Youngstown affected Baxter's ability to think clearly about his defense.

The attorney for 20-year-old Connor Stevens of Berea says keeping him locked up 23 hours a day in solitary was cruel punishment.

Judge David Dowd in Akron ordered both men released into the general inmate population.

Baxter, Stevens and two co-defendants have pleaded not guilty and face trial Sept. 17. A fifth has pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against his co-defendants
