How long Sam Hornish Jr., continues to drive the No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Dodge on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in place of the suspended A.J. Allmendinger is still in question beyond next weekend's race at Pocono.
However, a spokesperson for Hornish tells 13abc the Defiance, Ohio native will take part in Monday's tire test for the cup cars at Michigan International Speedway. Hornish's name was originally not included on the list when the track announced the testing session a month ago.
About 30 drivers will test their cars on the track in the Irish Hills after Goodyear had issues with its tires during NASCAR's race weekend in June.
If Hornish drives the No. 22 car the rest of the season, Penske Racing will need to figure out the logistics as Hornish currently sits fourth in the NASCAR Nationwide point standings entering Saturday's race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Nationwide and Sprint Cup cars do not always race at the same track the rest of 2012 season, such as the weekend of August 17 at MIS.
