Ohio AG urges schools to submit their safety plans

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio -

(AP) - Attorney General Mike DeWine says about 150 Ohio schools have not filed their floor plans or safety plans as required by state law.

Schools must file those plans with DeWine's office and update them at least every three years, making them accessible to law enforcement. DeWine urged schools to ensure their plans were up to date in the wake of the Chardon High School shooting that killed three students in February.

More than 330 schools had not properly filed plans at that time. DeWine says 1,030 buildings in 109 districts have submitted or updated plans since then.

He says officials try to prevent such situations but must be prepared to respond if they occur. He says Chardon High School had and followed its safety plan when the shooting occurred.
