New Lake High School is ready for students

More than two years after a deadly tornado ripped through Lake Township, the district has rebuilt the high school.

Today the media got the first look inside the new building.

Administrators say the best way to describe the building is "wow."

The new high school combines state of the art technology with a floor plan that flows for students and staff. There are two gyms, one that serves as a practice facility and cafeteria, top notch science labs, classrooms with interactive technology and space.

The 25.5 million dollar project is 60,000 sq. feet larger than the old building and is a welcome upgrade for administrators

"It's been a big improvement for us there is fresh paint, brand new tile, classrooms, everything is up to date an it's amazing to have this and what a blessing after the storms devastated so many, this is just great," says Principal Lee Herman.

At the same time the superintendent says while insurance money and grants covered the cost of the building, the district is in dire straits financially. They have a 6.75 mill levy request on next Tuesday's ballot and are hoping taxpayers will give the district new money to pay for teachers and supplies.

If you would like to check out the high school there is a public ceremony and open house from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday.
