Local men star on ABC's Final Witness

Posted: Updated:

What if a murder victim could tell you about their final moments? The voices of the dead come to life in a true-crime series on 13abc, taking a unique look at some of the nation's most shocking murders, and two local men are staring in Wednesday night's episode. Imagine walking on set of a network show with little experience. That's what brothers Matt and Mitch McVicker did after being cast for the abc show "Final Witness."

"It was pretty surreal, very unexpected but at the same time it was exciting," says Matt.

Mitch says, "When I was younger I had ambition to act, and I kind of steered away and did social work, non-profit work and this kind of came up spontaneously, and everything feel into place. I'm just grateful."

"Final Witness" examines a murder case from beginning to end, from the victim's point of view.  This episode highlights the murder of Andrew Dotson, an Ohio teen who got mixed up in the wrong crowd.

Matt says, "It's a story of identity, a story of forgiveness. His mother is instrumental in finding who actually killed him. He was found in a cornfield and he had been there for a very long time."

The episode was shot in Columbus, Ohio, near the actual scene of the crime. Mitch plays the victim's cousin Casey, and Matt plays the murderer James Conway. These brothers agree Matt's role was the biggest challenge.

"To see him go back and forth in those roles even when we weren't filming, when we went home at night he still had that energy on him," says Mitch.

Matt says, "I had to be as intense as possible and that was tough. We filmed my booking scene in between real bookings, which is extremely intense and it was just an incredible experience."

They hope  this inspires other local actors to step outside the box.

Matt says, "If you really do want something, make it a reality."

"Opportunities are always around, apply your passions and abilities," says Mitch.
