Big lines as people support Chick-Fil-A

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Hundreds of people lined up at lunch time Wednesday in West Toledo as part of "Chick-Fil-A" appreciation day.

At the noon hour there were about 300 people in line at the location inside the Westfield Franklin Park Mall waiting to get to the front of the line.

This is all part of the controversy surrounding the restaurant chain and its owners view on gay marriage.

Chick-Fil-A here in the mall typically has a decent line, but no one we talked with has ever seen anything like this.  Today's line not only snaked out of the food court, it snaked out of the mall, onto the sidewalk.  All to eat chicken, and support traditional marriage.

"He has a first amendment right to have any kind of opinion he wants and I'm tired of people being intimidated by the gay community,"  said Sue Papp, a Chick-Fil-A customer.

He, is the President of Chick-Fil-A Dan Cathy who recently made comments showing his company's support for marriage between a man and a woman.  That prompted some to boycott.  It prompted this large group to be a part of an unofficial Chick-Fil-A "Appreciation Day."

Although it's support started nationally, local people certainly got involved, for a number of reasons.

"I think it's important for those that are supporting those family values to show their support for Chick-Fil-A as well," said Byron Jones, a Chick-Fil-A supporter.

"Really was unsettled with the idea that they would come under attack simply because they were holding to traditional values concerning marriage. It's a Christian company so that's not out of the norm to expect that," said Chick-Fil-A supporter Julea Ward.

"It's Biblical standard, I like what they hold, what the value is," said Chick-Fil-A Jesse Rodriguez.
