Local gymnasts inspired by newest "Fab 5" - 13abc.com Toledo (OH) News, Weather and Sports

It was an exciting moment for the US Women's Gymnastics team as they captured the gold last night in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

It's been since 1996 since the US Women's Gymnastics team won the gold and with near perfect performances from the "newest" Fab 5 including star Gabby Douglas.

Local gymnasts from Sunrise Academy are more motivated than ever especially after how successful this USA team was.

"It's really motivational for me, seeing them and where they're at and thinking like what if I could be there someday," Gymnast Jen Brown stated.

What the US Women's Gymnastics team has accomplished has another local young star believing in what one day could be.

"It's really inspiring of how much hard work they put in, and showing that if they can do it, we can do it too. they're just so motivated to win," Kyleigh Baird said.

Coach Mike McKee understands the dreams for these young girls, but in order to get to the big stage, he says he makes sure they are ready for each level along the way.

"They're all motivated and always want to shoot for the Olympics and we try to get them to the next level and then hopefully we can keep on continuing that," McKee said.

Succeeding in each level, creates the motivation to compete one day, on the biggest stage in the world.

Gymnast Jen Brown says that just seeing it makes me want to go further.

The victory is also getting Presidential attention as President Obama was headed to Ohio today. He called the new gold medalist from Air Force One to congratulate them on what aids called their remarkable success.
