String of air scares on US flights

Posted: Updated:

It's either a string of bad luck or an indication of tight security, but there have been several strange events with airline flights in the US recently.

A suspicious device onboard a United Airlines jumbo jet to Switzerland forced the pilot to land in Boston. It turned out the device was just a camera stuck in an air sickness bag.

Crew members on an Air Canada flight from Victoria to Toronto found a sewing needle in a sandwich. There's no word on whether the scare is connected to needles found onboard Delta flights two weeks ago.

Then on Tuesday, there was another emergency onboard a plane approaching Denver. The United flight hit a large bird, tearing a giant hole near the nose of the plane and making for a tense landing.

Luckily, no one was injured in any of the incidents.
