Shape wear causing teen health problems

Posted: Updated:

A surprising fashion trend among young teens had doctors worried. shape wear.

Teens are wearing shape wear like Spanx  for the same reasons their moms do, to flatter their figure. But could it be taking a toll on their health?

According to Dr. Orly Avitzur, "You just are squeezing the body too much so you are placing either
direct pressure onto a nerve or squeezing internal organs."

Doctors say they've treated 15-year-olds for shape wear-related problems, which can include bladder infections, gastro-intestinal problems and significant nerve damage.

Also, child psychiatrists worry teenagers obsessed with creating the illusion of a flat stomach are setting themselves up for a host of psychological problems.
