You might see a house in Toledo for sale on eBay and you might want to take a closer look.
Turns out this home, which has a current bid of $12,000, has been torn down.
The pictures sell the property. A two story home painted with Sesame Street characters and ready for renovation.
This listing on eBay promises a buyer "keys within your hands within a week." And the top bid is only $12,000
Twelve grand might sound like a bargain for this listing. If you take a look, it's at the corner of Fulton and Floyd, more than 3,000 square feet for a duplex, and it's all online!"
But let's compare virtual reality to actual reality. When you come out here in person, you'll find the house has been deleted.
Kim Neal who lives the now- empty lot says, "Well, it was four bedrooms four years ago, three years ago, but not now."
He remembers the house and says the owner had planned to make it a daycare before moving away.
"The house was vacant for a while, so I went back and forth with the city, with the bank, about the upkeep cause it was bringing my property value down."
Two years ago Neal says the City tore the building down.
The listing on eBay shows Jones Investments as the seller. Jones Investments has been an eBay member since last August and has a history of eight purchases, but no sales.
According to the Lucas County Auditor, the parcel is owned by John Papadopoulos. But the eBay account does not list a name. So, while these pictures can tell you how to get to Floyd Street, the house itself is gone.
If you feel the urge to bid within the next four days, read the fine print. The seller writes: all funds will have to be paid via bank wire transfer or cashiers check and a non-refundable documentation fee of $295 is due within 24 hours. That would be nearly $300 gone for a house, that no longer exists.
Jones Investments released a statement saying they were unaware the house was torn down.
"We buy properties nationwide in bulk from banks, tax foreclosures, other investors etc, sight unseen. We were unaware that the house was torn down as it still exists on google maps. I guess Google is not very up to date. We have now ended the listing and will be relisting as just a lot."
