County plans on tearing down 900 abandoned homes

Posted: Updated:

Lucas County leaders are fighting neighborhood blight. The county treasurer announced details of a grant to help tear down run down properties in the area Tuesday.

The state grant and local matching dollars will allow the Lucas County Land Bank to spend $6.8 million through the end of 2013 to remove 900 vacant and abandoned structures.

The treasurer says that would be three times the buildings torn down by the City of Toledo last year.
