Jamie Farr Tourney raises money for charities

Posted: Updated:

The mission of the Farr is raising money for charities across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan and this year 10 area organizations benefit from the annual tournament. Every year thousands of people support the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic.
But long after the pro golfers leave town--local charities benefit from the tournament.

Heather Tabbert is a single mother, working on getting her life back on track with help from the Aurora Project.

"My goal is to raise my child, be drug free, in school and have a job," says Tabbert.

The North Toledo non-profit helps dozens of homeless women and children with housing and education. It's one of 10 non-profits chosen to receive Farr money this year.

"For us it is so heartwarming... Heather said it the best, for these women it means someone cares about them," says Executive Director Denise Fox.

Since 1984 the Farr has raised more than $6.5 million for area charities. Another recipient is Feed Lucas County Children, a group that provides free meals to thousands of hungry kids everyday. The money will pay for new steam ovens for the growing kitchen.

"That's pretty tough to say no to kids eating, so when we get this equipment in that's gonna help, it's one piece of the big puzzle, says Tony Sibeneck, Executive Director of Feed Lucas County Children.

This summer the organization has served 100,000 meals more than just one year ago. So this week at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, remember everyone involved is giving back long after the last putt.
