Farr returns to Toledo with annual gala

Posted: Updated:
SYLVANIA, Ohio -

People were all dressed up inside the Seagate Convention Center Tuesday night for the Hollywood Casino Gala Dinner to support the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic.

Nights like this and the tournament itself have raised millions of dollars for more than 100 Toledo area children's charities.

With no Farr tournament in 2011 and worry about its future, some were not sure whether we'd even see a night like this again.

But a group you might not expect saved it, the players.

"The girls saved us.  They are the ones that said we're not going to let this tournament go. They really love this one," said tournament namesake Jamie Farr.

A dispute with the former LPGA commissioner put the Farr in danger, but the one year hiatus, was just that, one year.  Now it's back better than ever.

"In Toledo it's a major event.  The girls get excited, my gosh there are 65,000  people that come out to watch them play.," said Farr.

Big sponsors are onboard like the Hollywood Casino.

"This just seemed very natural based on the city, what this meant to the city and the fundraising initiatives," said Richard St. Jean, the general manager of the Hollywood casino.

"It brings a lot of excitement and it brings a lot of outside attention to Sylvania.  It gives our young people a chance to show that hard work pays off and that you can be very successful in athletics," said mayor Craig Stough of Sylvania.

Wednesday night join sports director Dave Holmes live at Sylvania's Highland Meadows for the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic preview.  It begins at 7:00pm.
