The University of Toledo men's golf program will participate in 10 tournaments over the course of its 2012-13 campaign, first-year head coach Jamie Broce announced today. Highlighting the slate will be hosting the Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 17-18), as well as a trip to the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (March 10-12) at the conclusion of its spring break.
"I'm very excited about this year's schedule," Broce said. "We have a great mix of tournaments, and all the venues are terrific. Many of the courses will be challenging and require us to utilize good judgment and a variety of skills to be successful."
The Rockets open their first season under Broce at the Marshall Invitational (Sept. 10-11) before hosting some of the nation's top programs at the historic Inverness Club in mid-September. UT will also compete at Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic (Sept. 23-24) for the first time since 2006 and play in Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic (Oct. 7-9) and the Georgetown Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-23) for the first time. Broce also will send three individuals to compete in Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Individual Invitational (Oct. 15-16).
UT will commence its spring season with the second-annual Mid-American Match Play (Feb. 11-12) in Dade City, FL. The Rockets will open their spring-break trip in North Carolina with an alumni event at Pinehurst before competing in the aforementioned Pinehurst Intercollegiate. UT's remaining spring schedule includes first-time appearances in William & Mary's C&F Bank Intercollegiate (Mar. 24-26) and the Indiana Intercollegiate (Apr. 8-9), as well as a return trip to Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational (Apr. 20-21).
This year's MAC Championship will be held on May 3-5 at Longaberger Golf Course in Nashport, OH.
Toledo will feature a young senior-free roster led by 2011-12 MAC Freshman of the Year Chris Selfridge, who registered a 74.3 stroke average in his rookie campaign and placed third at the conference championship. The Rockets are also returning junior Oliver Holtsberry and sophomores Pat Cermak, Nate Gonring, Mike Lancaster and Jamie Richardson. UT will be welcoming the freshman trio of Otto Black (Pinckney, MI), Thomas Shindler (Dublin, OH) and Bobby Thomas (Tecumseh, MI) to its program.
