Mother mourns son

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

A mother had to bury her son and is now speaking out against violence.

Deadrick Rocker was shot and killed back in December. While the suspect remains behind bars family and friends gather to celebrate what would have been Rocker's 18th birthday.

Leslie Hawkins says losing her son at such a young age isn't worth it. She wants the violence in this city to stop before another life is lost.

"I just hate that my son wasn't here to see his 18th birthday. Just stay away from the drama. Try to live a peaceful life."

Hawkins doesn't know what led to her son's death, but is waiting for 16-year-old Davion Wilson's trial.  Wilson turned himself into police and is charged with felonious assault for shooting and killing rocker.

Mariah Livingston is expecting rocker's son at the end of August. She got a call the night he was killed.

"I didn't believe it. I kept calling trying to figure out if it was true or not."

And the pain continues to sink in as many gather to remember rocker also known as "Pooh."

Hawkins says, "I know my son was loved. He was loved. That smile, that laugh, that dance, that silliness it will never be forgotten."
