Family earns big $$$ from Farr visitors parking on lawn

TOLEDO, Ohio -

With an event that pulls large crowds from near and far- parking is at a premium for the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic.

And with parking in high demand each year--- neighbors have taken it upon themselves to reap the benefits- by turning their front yards into a parking lot.

All week long homeowners have filled their lawns corner to corner with dozens of vehicles.

Tim Sperry says, "I got 80 cars here yesterday. Yesterday I was valet for them, so if one leaves I move that spot in so I have another spot to fill and stuff."

And at five bucks a parking spot and the whole family directing traffic.

Sperry says one year his make shift parking lot brought in some serious cash.

"Last year they had it we bought an in-ground swimming pool for the kids with the money."

this is Kyle Stelmaszak's first year using her property for parking. And with her lawn being in such a prime location- her front yard filled up fast.

"Everyone wants to park here first!" She says.

With a vending cart of refreshments and plenty of space for parking,  Kyle says they're raising money for her son's hockey team.

However after Thursday's rain, she's a little worried her lawn will be torn up to a muddy mess.

"That was the only stipulation from the landlord was if the yard got bad we had to put that money back into it to fix it."

    One woman is in the hospital after an early morning fire. The fire started at a duplex on Vance street. Investigators say the home might need to be demolished. When crews arrived on the scene flames were shooting from the roof. The cause is still under investigation.
