Crews tore down a building many hoped to preserve ahead of schedule at Bowling Green State University.
Numerous people fought to save the building that housed one of the country's first Pop Culture departments.
The University says it would have cost too much to maintain the outdated building.
Pamela Wagner is among those who hoped to save the building, "I feel sad . It's a landmark, literally it is the birthplace of a discipline. It's a shame that the university did not take into consideration the more than two thousand signatures of citizens, alumni and some city council members who wanted to save the house."
The University plans on building a new student health center at the site.
