Neighbors uneasy after deadly shooting

TOLEDO, Ohio -

After a deadly shooting Friday night one 2-year-old is fighting to stay alive.  Leondra Hooks, 2, is in serious condition in the pediatric intensive care unit at a local hospital.

This comes as her one year old sister Keondra Hooks died Friday.  Both victims shot while sleeping on a floor inside their home.  Now the search is on for a killer and it has one neighborhood on edge as the search for suspects is now 24 hours old.

Moody Manor apartments were fairly quiet Friday night, but there was some uneasy from some residents that the killer or killers were still on the loose.

"I've said all along the violence must stop in this community, it must stop, and I need for the good  citizens of this community to step forward and work with me and work with this police department and my officers to see that this is done," said Toledo police chief Derrick Diggs.

The words of chief Diggs are still not easing all of the tension at the Moody Manor apartments.

"I'm concerned for my kids and other kids around here.  Best thing to do it not have your kids out here at night, "said resident Claude Hopings.

"It ain't safe, you can't even sit in your living room without people looking through the back door," said Tyressa Ursey, who's mother lives at Moody Manner.

Those twelve shots that hit this unit came through the downstairs back sliding door, leading some to head upstairs, especially at night.

"If they're in their house they're probably upstairs because you cant be safe in your own apartment from everything that's going on.  And stuff that's happening. It's terrible."

While Thursday night is still fresh in their minds, there's another reality some have come to understand.

"It's like any place else in America, things happen," said Hopings.

If you have any information about this case, you are urged to call crimestopper at 419-255-1111.

Family and friends will host a vigil for the two girls at the Moody Manor apartments Saturday at 5pm.
